When I was a boy, people were starting to question the validity of NASA.
The Moon Landing had resulted in nothing, and Project Apollo was over.
So, why were we keeping this worthless agency that had a Nazi war criminal as the head of its rocket program?
Then, we were in a real economic crisis, while, today, you might ask why the Head of the Department of Government Efficiency supports an expensive mission to Mars.
The Congressional Budget Act had created the Congressional Budget Office, and they were going to cut the funding to NASA.
Then, suddenly, the Big Ear Telescope, which was using government money to search for aliens, detected the Wow! Signal.
This is the only time that a signal attributed to aliens has been released by a government agency.
Fewer than three months earlier, George Lucas brought out a groundbreaking blockbuster on which he had been working for four years.
It was Star Wars!
Fewer than four months later, Steven Spielberg brought out a groundbreaking blockbuster on which he had been working for three years.
It was Close Encounters of the Third Kind!
But the Wow! Signal wasn’t just surrounded by Hollywood propaganda, while NASA faced a desperate need to justify its existence.
It happened only three days after the first space shuttle made its first free-flight.
It was the Enterprise!
Five days later, they launched Voyager 2, and twenty-one days later, they launched Voyager 1, while this would appear in another blockbuster franchise.
It was Star Trek!
So the strange alien signal appeared at just the right time to solve NASA’s funding problems.
And nothing like it ever appeared again.

One curiosity: before that Spielberg’s film, people who were contacted by aliens in Brazil used to see them as exotic humanoids. Like the super famous Karran’s case:
The alien looks strangely like the Aerial’s boy (music video by System of a Down):
“Coincidentally”, after Spielberg’s blockbuster, more and more people here started describing aliens they saw like the greys from Encounters of the 3rd kind, who by the way look like Aleister Crowley’s guide “Lam”.
Another curiosity: The number of people who see UFOs and have close encounters all over the world has just increased. If it’s not people losing the fear to be bashed by the public, it may be the well done job of destruction (or intermingling) of non mind controlled ones. The ones who see aliens in Brazil have been showing by their descriptions clear signs of mind control: they mention sleep paralysis and missing the time (about which Cathy O’Brien wrote in her book Trance formation…)
