Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC02) involved the simulated combatants of Blue, representing the United States, and Red, representing Iran, while the simulation took two (2) years of planning and it required the involvement of thirteen thousand (13,000) members of the United States Military.
The Red Force was led by Lieutenant General Paul Van Riper, who used asymmetrical tactics, and old-school technologies, charging a toll for ships navigating through the region, as the country representing Iran seized control of international shipping lanes and explored its capabilities for weapons of mass effect (WME).
Blue Force, representing the United States, responded with its enormously substantial and technologically superior naval force, attempting to establish dominance through shock and awe tactics, while it delivered an ultimatum to the Red Force, representing Iran, so Red used a fleet of small boats, in a surprize attack, with a massive salvo of missiles, to destroy Blue’s aircraft carrier, ten (10) of Blue’s cruisers, and five (5) of Blue’s six (6) amphibious ships, killing over twenty thousand (20,000) of Blue’s service personnel, while it followed up with a second attack to sink a significant portion of Blue’s navy.
At this point, the United States Military, which had just been destroyed by Iran in the simulation called Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC02), stopped the exercise for a do-over, as they “refloated” the navy of Blue, and changed the rules of engagement, with a new script so the computer said the war had been won by Blue Force.
General Van Riper, who had just defeated his opponent in a mere two (2) days, was ordered to surrender his anti-aircraft radar, and not to shoot down approaching aircraft, as he was denied access to his own weapons systems, and the location of his units was revealed, in a completely unrealistic fixing of the extremely expensive war game.
So this distinguished American spoke out, in protest, saying that what he saw was exactly what led to the crushing defeat of the United States in the Viet Nam War where, as a combat veteran, he won the Silver Star before he served as Director of Marine Corps Intelligence.
So, since the United States Government claims that Blue Force won, we can expect this to be played out in the real world through the continued insane, expensive, and self-destructive aggression that has led to the War against Iran.
