I remember reading an article on Cracked.com or some other blog about the underlying messages on these “Christmas” specials, like how Santa was mean to people.
In one of them, a 1974 cartoon ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, sassy mouse Albert writes a letter insulting Santa and in retaliation, he blacklists the whole town. Their only hope of saving Christmas is constructing a giant clock in the hopes that if Santa sees it while flying overhead at midnight, he might have a change of heart. Of course Albert accidentally breaks the clock and all hope seems lost until he fixes it a the 11th hour and Christmas is saved. What is the underlying story to that? You’ve got your family, they’re in good health, you’ve got a roof over your head and food on the table, and you can buy your own presents, so why does everybody’s happiness depend on some fat old guy dropping free merch from the sky, based on how good a person you’ve been?
